Hospice Volunteers Needed -- Lycoming & Clinton Counties
April 2010
WILLIAMSPORT - SUN Home Hospice, a non-profit agency delivering services to patients throughout central Pennsylvania, is seeking hospice volunteers for Lycoming and Clinton Counties.
Functions performed by the hospice volunteers are varied and contingent upon the needs of the patient/family. They may include talking to, listening to, writing letters for, reading to the patient/family, teaching crafts, preparing light meals, running errands, making phone calls, decorating for holidays, etc. Volunteers are not responsible for personal care of the patient or any procedure usually performed by nursing staff.
Volunteers are appreciated and needed as requested by the family -- typically once a week. Training is provided at no charge to the volunteer.
The hospice concept is to provide care and dignity to those individuals with a life-limiting illness and to assist their families during and after this time. Hospice care is a loving way of keeping families together; it affirms life, emphasizing quality, not length. Hospice empowers patients to live fully while including families and loved ones in giving care. Volunteers play a large part in making this happen.
SUN Home Hospice would like to invite community members to consider joining our team as a hospice volunteer. Hospice volunteers are committed and compassionate people who are valuable members of the hospice team. If you are interested in volunteering or would like additional information, please contact Maggie Henderson, BSW, at 1-800-634-5232, extension 2475 or via e-mail at mhenderson@sunhomehealth.com.
