SUNBURY -- PPL Corporation recently awarded a grant of $15,000 payable over three years to the SUN Home Hospice Care Center.  The Hospice Care Center, which opened in October 2009, provides a comfortable alternative for Hospice patients who are experiencing issues in pain and symptom control or who are in need of respite care.  This higher level of care is provided in a more controlled setting, while maintaining a comfortable, homelike atmosphere.  The necessary medical equipment is readily available; yet, it looks like furniture rather than the normal stark antiseptic appearance.  Everything from lighting to floor coverings conveys warmth and comfort to the patients and their families.  Patients may be any age -- from birth to 100 years plus -- male and female; crossing all socioeconomic statuses.  The Hospice Care Center is staffed 24 hours a day with a variety of SUN Home Hospice staff including:  nurses, aides, social workers, chaplain, hospice medical director, counselors, and hospice volunteers.  During times of crisis, the center provides the family with relief from the role of sole caregiver.  Overnight accommodations are available for family members to stay with their loved ones.  The center also offers a family room, meditation room, and kitchen for family member's use.  There are no age or time restrictions for visitation and small pets are always welcome.

Donald N. Wilver, Jr., SUN Home Health and Hospice Executive Vice President for Community Affairs, notes "this donation is very much appreciated.  Community support for the SUN Home Hospice Care Center has been truly outstanding."  The initial three year fundraising goal was set at $630,000 with nearly $420,000 raised to date.

SUN Home Hospice has been serving patients and families who are facing the special challenges of dealing with a life-limiting illness for nearly 30 years.  The term "hospice" means a place of rest for travelers on a difficult journey.  The SUN Home Hospice team provides the necessary physical and emotional support for those patients and families who have embarked on that final journey.

SUN Home Health and Hospice provides home health and hospice services to 14 counties throughout Central Pennsylvania.  For more information about SUN Home Health and Hospice please call 1-888-478-6227 or visit www.sunhomehealth.com
